Come Closer: a photo exhibition and auction for the Girls with Rett Syndrome

By Danijela Szili.

In July 2013 a special venture has taken place in the organization of the Hungarian Rett Syndrome Foundation. We have envisioned a series of 10 photographs, each illustrating a famous actor and a girl with Rett syndrome. Our purpose on one hand is to raise awareness about this rare genetic disease, and also to bring the families raising these severely disabled girls closer to everyone through these photos.

Rett syndrome is a complex neurodevelopmental disease almost exclusively affecting girls. Those affected are severely disabled and require constant help, attention and supervision.

The first supporter of this campaign was Vivienne Balla photographer, who has spent several days creating these pictures and the special atmosphere surrounding these photo sessions with her team: Lilla Lendvai stylist, Judit Kökény makeup artist, Norbert Kozma hair stylist and Nikolett Kustos werkphotographer.

Our efforts were also supported by:

Átrium Movie Theater – were the auction took place in September 17, 2013

Darvas Képkeret – who took care of framing the photographs

Instyle Magazine – our main media sponsor

Mozaik Coffee House – that hosted the exhibition until August 30, 2013

Novák Fotó – that have volunteered to print the photos

For more information about our events, the disease itself or the work of the foundation, please go to MRSZA homepage at rettzindroma.hu.

The photographs have been auctioned off at the Atrium Movie Theater on September 17, 2013.

With each photo came a poem written in Hungarian by one of the modern poets.  The poems in original handwritting were also put on auction the same day. This event permitted to raise more than 6,000€.

We were happy to borrow our exhibition to Eurordis for the Black Pearl Gala Dinner in Brussels, February 25 2014. For more informations about this event, please visit the Black Pearl Gala official and Facebook pages.
